Educational Visits and Trips
At Hazelwood, we ensure a good range of exciting and engaging trips and visits take place throughout the school year in all year groups linked to the curriculum.
We also invite external speakers to deliver talks and workshops and learn from our local community. We choose trips and visitors that will enhance the curriculum and provide something that we cannot provide ourselves at school.
For most trips and visits, we ask for voluntary contributions from parents/carers in order to cover the costs of the trip. If you are in receipt of Free School Meals, there is the option for financial support for all visits.
Sleepovers and Residential Visits
Sleepovers and residential visits in Year 4, 5 and 6 build children’s independence and provide opportunities for learning within different contexts and settings.
Towards the end of Year 4, a sleepover at the school is organised so that children can prepare themselves for the upcoming residential in Year 5. They spend the evening around the campfire, playing games, eating food and then (barely) sleeping in the hall!
In Year 5, the 1-night residential camping trip to Gilwell provides children with opportunities to develop their teamwork skills by erecting their own tents as well as participating in a range of outdoor activities such as shelter building, go karting and orienteering.
In Year 6, the 3 or 4 night residential visit to PGL Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire provides children with the opportunities to challenge themselves with a range of outdoor activities such as abseiling, high ropes and kayaking.
