Multicultural Week
Year 4 had a fantastic time during Multicultural Week! They focused on learning all about Jamaica and its rich and vibrant culture. The children explored Jamaica’s warm, tropical climate and discovered how it influences the country’s lively traditions and way of life. They studied the Jamaican flag and created their own mini information booklets packed with lots of facts.
The children loved listening to traditional Jamaican stories and learning about the country’s famous music and dance styles, such as reggae and dancehall. They had lots of dancing and listening to music.
Cooking was big hit in Year 4! The children learned about traditional Jamaican dishes and even had the chance to make a delicious Jamaican ginger cake in The Nest. It was delicious and everyone enjoyed working together showing the value of teamwork.
The children also learned about Sir Lenny Henry, exploring how he inspires others through his comedy, acting and his work promoting diversity and equality. Year 4 had a go at writing their own jokes and even wrote letters to Lenny Henry to tell him how he has inspired them.
In Art, the children made colourful carnival masks inspired by Jamaica’s lively festivals. The masks were decorated with bright colours, feathers and glitter.
It was a fantastic week full of learning and creativity. Click here for more photos.
RE- Learing about Judaism
The children were fortunate to have a special visitor, Mr. Newham, who helped deepen their understanding of the Jewish festivals Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. He brought in several significant items used in Jewish traditions, including the Shofar horn. The Shofar is blown to signal the beginning of Rosh Hashanah and marks the start of the ten-day period known as the 'Days of Repentance'. This is a time of reflection, self-examination, and seeking forgiveness in preparation for Yom Kippur. Mr. Newham’s visit helped bring these traditions to life and gave the children a meaningful insight into how these important festivals are celebrated.

Problem Solving in Year 4
The Zoo Enclosure Problem
Using their knowledge of place value, the children worked in groups to compare, order and round 4-digit numbers. The classrooms were filled with manipulatives and energy as they shared their clever solutions and discovered how rounding changes the value of numbers. They solved ‘The Zoo Enclosure’ problem where they had to round numbers to 10,000.
In PSHE, the children began with a challenge to see if they could sit back-to-back with their partner, and both stand up at the same time. They learnt the importance of communication, teamwork, and collaborative working. They then went on to create human function machines. These were all designed to complete a process and it was important to ensure that each person knew what their part of the process was to achieve the overall outcome. They performed their function machines to the rest of the class to see if they could work out what the outcome of each machine was.
Year 4 team building
Year 4 children had a fantastic time taking part in a range of team-building activities designed to build cooperation and confidence. They worked together in the over and under game, showing great focus and teamwork as they passed the ball carefully around the group. The hoop challenge encouraged problem-solving and lots of laughter as they figured out how to move the hoop along the line without breaking their chain. In the communication challenge, the children showed how well they could use gestures, expressions, and teamwork to succeed without using words. It was wonderful to see their collaboration, creativity, and resilience shine through. Click here to see more photos.
