It will also outline how the check helps assess your child’s multiplication skills and how you can support their learning at home.

It was a fantastic experience filled with learning, teamwork and lots of smiles.

London Orchestra

As part of our wider learning, Year 4 had the exciting opportunity to visit the London Philharmonia Orchestra. The children were amazed by the live performance and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the power and atmosphere of a full orchestra. They listened carefully to the wide range of instruments and began to understand how different sounds are combined to create mood, emotion and tell a story through music.

During the performance, the children also took part in an interactive song, joining in enthusiastically and showing great confidence. They followed instructions brilliantly and fully embraced the experience, which made the session even more engaging and enjoyable. It was wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity as they responded to the music and participated so positively.

Throughout the trip, the children demonstrated all of our school values. They showed respect through their excellent listening and behaviour, resilience by staying focused and engaged throughout the performance, and ambition by embracing a new and inspiring experience. Year 4 had a fantastic time taking part in Roman Day. The children dressed up as Romans, wearing togas, armour, and accessories, which really brought history to life. They worked together to build an impressive Roman town, complete with carefully planned buildings and roads. As part of the day, the children explored Roman art and studied mosaics, learning about the patterns, colours, and symbols used by the Romans. Cooking in Year 4

Year 4 had a fantastic time making their own healthy cereal bars in our new kitchen, The Nest. After researching nutritious ingredients and evaluating existing products, the children used their design plans to create cereal bars that met their own design specifications. They carefully measured, mixed and shaped their ingredients, showing great teamwork and attention to detail. The finished cereal bars were a huge success – delicious and entirely made by the pupils following their own designs!

States of Matter Workshop

Year 4 took part in an exciting states of matter workshop that sparked their curiosity from start to finish. Throughout the session, they watched and took part in a range of fun and eye-opening science experiments and demonstrations as they explored the differences between solids, liquids and gases.

They were especially amazed by the dry ice, learning that it is a solid form of carbon dioxide that doesn’t melt into a liquid but changes straight into a gas. The swirling fog and bubbling effects created lots of excitement. The children were equally fascinated by liquid nitrogen, discovering that it is an extremely cold liquid that can freeze everyday objects in seconds and turn back into a gas almost instantly. The workshop featured lots of safe, controlled “explosions” that helped bring scientific ideas to life in a dramatic and memorable way. By the end of the session, the children were buzzing with enthusiasm, eager to share the surprising facts and discoveries they had learned about the changing states of matter. Multicultural Week

Year 4 had a fantastic time during Multicultural Week! They focused on learning all about Jamaica and its rich and vibrant culture. RE- Learing about Judaism

The children were fortunate to have a special visitor, Mr. Newham, who helped deepen their understanding of the Jewish festivals Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. He brought in several significant items used in Jewish traditions, including the Shofar horn. The Shofar is blown to signal the beginning of Rosh Hashanah and marks the start of the ten-day period known as the 'Days of Repentance'. This is a time of reflection, self-examination, and seeking forgiveness in preparation for Yom Kippur. Mr. Newham’s visit helped bring these traditions to life and gave the children a meaningful insight into how these important festivals are celebrated.

Problem Solving in Year 4

The Zoo Enclosure Problem

Using their knowledge of place value, the children worked in groups to compare, order and round 4-digit numbers. They solved ‘The Zoo Enclosure’ problem where they had to round numbers to 10,000.

In PSHE, the children began with a challenge to see if they could sit back-to-back with their partner, and both stand up at the same time. They learnt the importance of communication, teamwork, and collaborative working. They then went on to create human function machines. These were all designed to complete a process and it was important to ensure that each person knew what their part of the process was to achieve the overall outcome. They performed their function machines to the rest of the class to see if they could work out what the outcome of each machine was.
