VE Day Celebrations
The sun was certainly shining over Hazelwood’s VE Day 80th Celebrations. The children took time during an assembly to reflect upon what VE Day is and why it is celebrated. The children discussed which of the values those who fought for the freedom of others showed during WW2 and how important it is not to forget that the freedom we enjoy today is because so many believed that freedom was worth fighting for.
Then the party started! Mrs Pearson was simply amazing, leading all the classes in the Hazelwood street party. From Cha Cha Slide to Agadoo, the children joined in every dance and even created their own conga lines around the playground. The party also proved that jelly and ice-cream is as popular today as it was 80 years ago, as over 700 portions were served to the children during the afternoon. Children sang along to the music and decorated the table cloths as they enjoyed their yummy pudding.
As always, the children of Hazelwood show how mature, thoughtful, kind and full of a zest for life that makes days like these even more special.
