Enrichment

We are proud to offer a range of enrichment programmes and activities for our children at Hazelwood.

Hazelwood’s Got Talent

Each year we celebrate the wonderful talents of our children with our exciting Hazelwood’s Got Talent.  All children are free to enter either individual or in a small group.  Rounds are held in class with the children voting for their favourite act.  All winners go through to the semi-final where they perform their talent in a special assembly to their house.  The children of each house will vote for their favourite act in Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6.  The three winners then perform for the whole school and community in the final.  It is a wonderful celebration of our amazing children.

World Book Day

Each year, we celebrate World Book Day as a whole school.  All the children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and we hold a range of exciting activities to celebrate reading.  This has ranged from taking photos of the most interesting place you can read a book, stop, drop and read, learning about a local author and illustrator and each class writing their very own story.  It is an annual event that all of our children (and staff) immerse themselves into wholeheartedly.

Competitions and Events

As well as the wide range of extra-curricular competitions and events we hold at Hazelwood, we are proud to be part of the Enfield Town Partnership which enables us to provide even more opportunities for our children.  So far, children have participated in Spelling Bees, Debating competitions and a Science Fayre where they are able to compete against other schools in the borough. We are very proud of all their achievements so far and are looking forward to what the future will bring.

Newspaper Group

Our Year 4, 5 and 6 children are given the opportunity to participate in a weekly Newspaper club where they read and discuss current affairs and articles in the newspaper.

John Gilbert

John Gilbert is an inspirational and motivational speaker who works with our Year 4, 5 and 6 children at Hazelwood Schools. He works with the children debating and discussing world events as well as developing resilience, self-confidence and ambition within our children. He also visits other classes to focus on PSHE subjects and continuing to develop our values-based learning approach.

Junior Apprentices

Our Year 6 Junior Apprentices have devised their own business plan to raise money for a charity of their choosing: The Hearts and Helpers Homeless charity. They then had to meet with ‘The Dragon’ (Emma), a local business person who was able to advise the apprentices on their next steps. She was very impressed with their dedication and enthusiasm. They have come up with some amazing ideas such as running lunchtime clubs for every year group and selling Christmas tattoos at the fete.  Their favourite idea though was to sell strips of gaffer tape with every strip being sold used to stick Mr Newham to a wall. We have no idea why this idea was so popular!!!  The apprentices were very enthusiastic in their selling techniques and come the day of the fete, they had sold enough to use three complete rolls of tape. The dragons continue to raise money by running clubs and coming up with genius ideas!
