Assembly Programme

A programme of assemblies centred around our values-based ethos helps to promote children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, and provide clear guidance for children on how to grow up to be the best person they can possible be in line with our school vision.

As well as the values assemblies, we have a carefully thought-out structure of planned assemblies throughout the week. This is a valuable opportunity for children of all ages to engage and reflect collectively.

Monday – Values:

Each week will begin with an assembly which focuses on the current value of the half-term; shared through stories, real life examples and various other stimuli. This assembly supports the teaching of values and ensures they are fully embedded into our school curriculum. The school is mixed so that all benefit from the same assembly (Year 1, 3, 5 and Year 2, 4, 6).
There will be occasions where Monday assemblies focus on different PSHE topics or on global awareness.

Tuesday/ Wednesday/Thursday – Singing Assembly:

We are fortunate to have talented musical staff at Hazelwood who will lead a weekly singly assembly; children of our school will sing together to raise the roof on our school hall! It is also an opportunity for our talented musicians to share their talents with their peers.

Friday – Achievement assembly:

This an opportunity to celebrate the achievement of Hazelwood children including an achievement winner for each class, success with House Points and the celebration of those classes with the best attendance for the week.

Circle Time:

On days where children are not in assembly, there will be a circle time in class focusing on global awareness; looking at current affairs, national days as well as promoting the schools’ future charity events. This will provide children with the chance to reflect on pertinent issues across the globe.

Class Assemblies:

Each class will have the opportunity to perform a class assembly to parents and their siblings based on their learning at some point within the academic year.

Class assembly dates 2023-2024:

As part of our commitment to our parent partnership, we will continue with our series of class assemblies next year.
