Bienvenido de vuelta – Welcome Back to Spanish at Hazelwood
Since September 2014 we have been leaning Spanish from Year 2 to Year 6 as our Modern Foreign Language(MFL).
The children in Years 2- 6 have weekly Spanish lessons and have been doing really well covering a wide range of topics so as to develop their understanding of speaking, listening, reading and writing in the Spanish language. A wide range of activities are used to engage and immerse the pupils in the Spanish language which include songs, stories, puppets and a variety of games and Computing.
Week ending Friday 17th November 2017
Year 2 children were practising and learning the parts of the body through a song ‘ Heads, Shoulders Knees and toes’ in Spanish. They were also introduced to a Spanish playground game ‘ Abuelito. ¿Què hora es?’ They will all practise and play next week.
Year 3 children were focusing on learning the remaining key phonics sounds and adding them to the others they were learning last half term. They had the opportunity to practise saying and recognising theses sounds in groups using picture and word cards.
Year 4 children were using a questionnaire to ask and answer to their class ‘When is your birthday?’ using dates and months they have learnt previously. They were also listening to and watching a video clip of a birthday using related vocuabulary.
Year 5 children were using their knowledge of describing parts of the face through playing the game ‘ Guess Who?’ in Spanish in groups. They had to formulate sentences correctly to ask and answer specific question.
Year 6 children were recapping on how to write sentences correctly to describing places and using ‘lots of’ correctly. They also had to read sentences in Spanish related to where places were situated and show understanding, recognising cognates and specific compass point language
Week ending Friday 20th October 2017
Year 2 children were practising asking and answering ‘Wwhat is your name?’ ‘ And you?’ They practised their numbers using dice and did cross curricular maths with doubling their numbers. They also listened to a story in Spanish.
Year 3 children were continuing to learn the key phonic sounds with actions and words as well as revise the ones they have learnt so far.
Year 4 children were consolidating their numbers and dates by reading short dates and matching to the full written date, as well as writing different dates in full.
Year 5 were consolidating their language on hair and eyes description by recognising and matching different descriptions to different pictures of people.
Year 6 were consolidating their language of weather by understanding writings of short simple poems and being able to match them to a picture and then creating their own simple poems by changing the weather language.
Week ending Friday 13th October 2017
Year 2 children were singing their greetings song as well as practising with their peers asking and answering ‘ How are you?’ and ‘What is your name?’. They also practised listening to and recognising numbers.
Year 3 children were practising asking and answering ‘ How old are you?’ They also were introduced to more phonics sounds, with words and actions to help them memorise them.
Year 4 children were practising asking and answering ’What is the date today’ and singing the months of the year.
Year 5 were practising asking and answering questions about family members and spelling their names using Spanish girls and boys names. They were also introduced to describing hair and eyes using adjectives.
Year 6 children were practising describing the weather of the different seasons through lots of speaking and listening activities.
Week ending Friday 6th October 2017
Year 2 children were singing a greeting song and learning to ask and answer ‘ how are you?’ to their friends. They also had to arrange in order a Spanish dialogue text between two children.
Year 3 children were practising their numbers and learning to ask and answer ‘ How old are you?’ with their peers.
Year 4 children were learning to ask and answer ‘ What is the date today?’ and practised singing the months of the year . They also discussed with their peers ways to memorise the months words vocabulary and share with the class.
Year 5 children were practising asking and answering questions about family by using a questionnaire with the children in their class.
Year 6 children were practising asking and answering questions about the weather and what the weather is like in the different seasons. They consolidated the vocabulary through joining in with a song.
Week ending Friday 29th September 2017
Year 2 children were counting up to 10 and matching the written word with a number and picture. They also sang their greetings song in music assembly today! See the clip below
Year 3 children were practising counting to 20 and more with different objects in class. They also were doing action songs to a Spanish song.
Year 4 children were practising their numbers to 31 and using their knowledge to work on calculations and write their answers in words.
Year 5 children were practising their speaking and listening skills through their spelling of Spanish boys and girls names to their partner, using the Spanish alphabet.
Year 6 children were on the School Trip.
Autumn 1st half
Week ending 22nd September 2017
Year 2 listened and joined in with a greetings song. They also practised their numbers to 10 with a song and their fingers.
Year 3 recapped on their phonic vowel sounds and they practised greetings, asking and answering in a variety of ways ‘How are you?’
Year 4 revised their classroom instructions and practised writing those words with punctuation.
Year 5 recapped on family words, recognising plurals, feminine and masculine nouns and began learning the sounds of the Spanish alphabet to be able to ask and answer ‘ How do you spell your name?’
Year 6 continued describing weather in a variety of ways, listening to short extracts about weather which had to be matched correctly to a weather picture.
Week ending 15th September 2017
Year 2 children were introduced to Spanish and using Google earth seeing the countries where Spanish is spoken. They had the opportunity to greet each other in Spanish and join in with a greetings song.
Year 3 children were introduced to the 5 vowel phonics sounds. We used an action and a specific word to remember the sound of each vowel.
Year 4 children were revising greetings and had the opportunity to practise their speaking and listening skills asking ‘ how are you?’ and answering in a variety of ways.
Year 5 children were introduced to family member words and had the opportunity to ask and answer if they have any brothers or sisters or animals
Year 6 were introduced to a variety of weathers in the present tense.
